Flying-fox counts – Gordon, NSW 2072

To estimate the number of flying-foxes in the camp, volunteers commenced 'counting' how many flew out of the valley at dusk. Counters stood at various locations around the reserve where they had a view across the direction of flight. This began in 1995 in association with research on the release of rescued, hand-reared pups.

Data from the flyout 'counts' from Ku-ring-gai Flying-Fox Reserve, conducted by volunteers and in recent years by Council Officers. Council staff report the counts to the Australian Flying-fox Monitor.
